Conan's land of Hyboria is a brutal, savage, and wonderful place. It's only fair that more gamers get to enjoy this fantasy world without having to pay for it. Funcom announced today that, indeed, Age of Conan will be going free-to-play.
This summer Age of Conan will digitally re-launch under the name Age of Conan: Unrated. This new version of the game will cater to free members and premium subscribers. The differences of which can be found
here. Current players will get grandfathered into things like character slots, but restrictions do apply to free members.
An extended item mall or item shop will be implemented, most likely on top on what already exists. Gamers will use Funcom Points to purchase items like weapons, mounts, access passes, character boosts, and Premium services. An in-game way of purchasing items will be introduced when the game goes free-to-play.
When reading the announcement concerning the movie tie-in gamers with a keen eye on diction noticed that the new content was being called an adventure pack. This term is often used amongst free-to-play games and will apparently stand true when it comes to Age of Conan.
