RuneScape launches EASTER HOLIDAY CONTENT

Cambridge, UK - Tuesday 19th April 2011 - Jagex Games Studio, developer of RuneScape, the world's most popular free-to-play MMORPG, today unveiled this year's Easter holiday event, Holly and Hawthorn.

This year's event is based around the official changing of the seasons event which traditionally sees the Queen of Snow hand over the baton to the Queen of Sunrise; allowing winter to pass in to spring. This year, however, things are not quite going to plan. Someone has stolen the ceremonial ‘year baton'! What is normally a simple ceremony is edging towards bitter rivalry.

Players must commune with the elements and track down the ‘year baton' to prevent RuneScape from being trapped in winter forever. While players complete the holiday quest they will also be able to join forces and side with either winter or spring by chopping down seasonal trees. Free-players will be able to fell holly trees to help bring in springtime, while members have the additional choice of chopping down hawthorn trees to side with winter. The Season Tree will keep track of how things are going, and the Land of Holly and Hawthorn will sway between the seasons based on how many of each tree is cut down.

Everyone who takes part in the event will earn the exclusive holiday item. RuneScape members will get the added option of wielding the item to locate and teleport themselves to evil trees throughout the game, much like communing with a spirit tree.

In addition to the holiday content, the RuneScape community management team will be running a host of competitions throughout the Easter weekend. From Friday 22 - Monday 25 April, the player who chops down the most holly and hawthorn trees will receive a collection of free RuneScape merchandise.
