Eden Eternal Review

I was fortunate enough to have the chance to play Eden Eternal before it was released into Closed Beta. "I even did an interview with Aeria Games about the game and so I was excited to have the chance to play it.

As I started playing the game, it looked really cool. Character creation screen was very organized and laid. You have the option of choosing what hair style your character can have along with hair color, face type, face color, eye type, eye color….pretty much like any other MMORPG. Although Eden Edernal did surpass a lot of other games in terms of flexibility when it comes to customizing your character. You get to pick your character’s class as well as the trait that you want your character to specialize in. The classes include warrior, magician, hunter, thief, and cleric. Each of them having their own advantage and disadvantage. When you first start, you will only get to choose between warrior and magician. However, as you reach certain levels in the game, you will acquire new classes. For instance I chose to play as a warrior and level 5, I was given a new class, Cleric. So from that point on, you can switch between warrior and cleric. That was one of the things I really enjoyed and liked about this game. Every other MMORPG you play, you are forced to stick with one class and if you don’t like that class, you have to create a new character. In Eden Eternal, you can switch to any class you want on the same character and level it to the max. Each class has its own sub-classes as well so you will have tons of playtime leveling each class. Each class has special traits that you get to choose from. At character creation, you get to choose one trait to specialize in. I ended up selecting Leadership which increased my character’s HP stats.

When you first enter the game, you see your starting town. There’s lots of NPCs to go to. A question mark will hover over any NPC that has a quest for you and an exclamation mark over any NPC whose quest you have completed. When you have accepted a quest, a box will pop-up showing you a list of all your open quests.

One of the things I loved about the game was the fact that you can right-click a quest and auto-route to the NPC that gave you that quest or auto-route to the monsters that you have to kill to complete the quest. Overall, doing quests is like any other MMORPG. Same with monsters. Just go up to a monster and right-click to attack. Use any of your skills to further drain the monster’s hp points and eventually kill it. Sometimes the monster will drop a bag with loot in it and sometimes it will drop a chest with loot in it.

Every monster has its own boss and you can easily see the boss because the boss looks larger than the normal monsters. So when you fight a monster that looks bigger than the monsters surrounding it, get ready for a big fight! You will need to use your skills. Also make sure that the monster’s level is either lower than your current skill level or at least the same level as you are. If you feel like you will die before you are able to kill the monster, you will have to run away. Of course the monster will chase you until it gets tired and retreats.

You will have the chance to use portals in the game to teleport to different maps.

One of the beginner quests does this. The quest takes you to a cave where you have to fight a boss at the end of the cave. You have to use a special hammer to defeat the boss and get the loot.

Leveling is fun in the game. Of course, it’s very similar to any RPG. Quest and kill monsters to level up. The level up animation is pretty entertaining. The User Interface is very easy and simple to read and so playing the game will be fun and enjoyable. Adjusting your camera angle is an easy thing to do. You can rotate 360 degress, scroll in or scroll out, if you want to run backwards, your character will actually walk backwards instead of turning around and running towards you.

I would recommend Eden Eternal to anyone who is looking for a new and fun MMORPG to play. To those who have played RPGs before, you guys will get the hang of it pretty easily and fast. The keyboard functions and UI in this game stand are somewhat different from other games but still very easy to learn. To those who are new to MMORPGs, this game will stay be a fun experience to play. I played this by myself and with no one on the map so I would have to say that if more people were on the map, this would have been double the fun. Can’t complain much about the game. Graphics are really good. Gameplay is smooth. Reminds me a lot of Flyff and Silkroad Online…but maybe that’s just me. Look forward to seeing this game improve with more features!
