GAMES had the pleasure of taking the opportunity to interview Perfect World’s Jon Belliss, their Director of Marketing, about Perfect World’s new Genesis expansion.
1. Crafting is one of the most commonly known skills in any MMORPG." It’s great to know that Perfect World International has finally decided to release their new Runecrafting feature." Can you give us more detail about what this new feature brings to the players?
Open to all classes, the Runecrafting feature will allow players to create powerful runes that produce various buffs and effects that can be slotted into weapons and gear. Since it is harder to master than other crafting skills, the end product will be highly coveted and definitely worthwhile.
2. What sorts of quests will players have to do in order to find Runes?
Players will be able to obtain runes by completing a series of daily quests, including the Land of Buried Bones, where players will be tasked with taking down high level bosses and sand bandits.
3. Is there anything in the new RuneCrafting skill that is different from crafting skills in any other MMORPG?
Runecrafting offers more than half a dozen types of buffs and effects that can alter different character stats. Runes can be slotted into weapons to yield more damage, reduce cool down periods for spells or even increase critical strike rates.
4. How does the skill level of the item improve over time as the player puts new runes on it?" What effects does the runes have on the item as the skill level gets higher?
As players increase their Runecrafting skills, they will be able to craft runes with more attributes. For example, in the beginning, players will be able to create runes that buff the four basic character stats (strength, vitality, magic and dexterity), but at the more advance levels, they will be able to create much more powerful runes that can lower cool down times, increase DPS and resistance.
5. What sorts of advantages will players have with the new RuneCrafting system?" Having shiny, glowing weapons in any MMO is something any gamer would want!
With the ability to create runes that yield powerful buffs, skilled Runescrafters will be in high demand. In addition to being able to buff out their own gear, they will be able to sell their wares to the highest bidder in exchange for in-game coin.
6. What should players expect from Perfect World International: Genesis as the days go by? Any new features in development?
As we get closer to the launch date, players can check the official Perfect World International blog (http://pwi.perfectworld.com/) for updates on upcoming features. Currently one of the biggest features in the expansion is guild bases, which are being introduced for the first time alongside the new Earthguard race with two new classes. We will also be adding four new territories and will be resetting the Territory War system, which will leave all of the territories up for grabs to any guild.
7. Anything else you would like to share with the community?
Thank you for your time and we are looking forward to launching Genesis on March 2. One thing that we like to say to players who still might be on the fence is that since our games are truly free-to-play, you have very little to lose by trying them, but a whole lot to gain, especially if you are tired of paying a monthly subscription fee.
