Drakensang Online is a action MMORPG developed and published by BigPoint, the german masters of MMOs. The game features impressive graphics, tons of maps to explore, PvP, pets and more. Since Diablo I and Diablo II we all become fans of this hack and slash type games, they are fun in short bursts, and if they are made well, they can drain a lot of your free time. Drakensang Online has a lot of fun things to explore and to master.

The game features three classes, the classic warrior, mage and ranger, each with their skill tree and equipment. You receive a skill every few levels or so, and a talent point every level which you can spent to improve the skills you already have. Furthermore there are two additional talent trees with passive or PvP skills. There is also a knowledge tree, which has several utility skills from access to a stash, portal to town, mount skills, ability to wear a cloak and the PvP tree, which uses honor gained from PvP matches to improve your character and skills specially for PvP but also for PvE. It works well, and it gives you a lot of things to do and improve your character the way you want it.


The world is split in several maps each with their specific level range monsters, but also lots of dungeons to explore alone or with friends. Each map is instanced. There are several players on each instance until it reaches a cap and creates another one for the rest of the players. There are also PvP servers where once you are out of towns, the fun begins. You can travel by foot, mount, dragon or also use teleport obelisks if you already discovered them on each map.

For Player vs Player fans there are four types of instanced battlegrounds, ranging from 1v1 to 6v6, where each win and kill nets you honor, which you can use to improve you PvP skills and gain a higher PvP rank. These maps are well done, since the obstacles on them have collision on, so you can hide and dodge an arrow or a fireball, by sliding or jumping at the right time near a barrel, rock, or formation of obstacles found on map. There is also open PvP on PvP servers, or consensual PvP where you activate to be open for PvP on all maps.

The graphics are beautifully for this type of game, so is the art direction, very similar to Diablo III, but better in some ways. The animations are good enough, and so is the diversity of the models, some high end armors look bad ass and so are the mounts. The environment is well crafted, with a nice attention for detail. Overall the graphic quality is quite impressive.

Since its a free to play game, there is a cash shop, and premium currency named Andermant. With this currency you can buy several items ranging from identification scrolls, potions, mounts and more. Fortunately this currency also drops from monsters and also acts as a reward for many quests, so if you have the time you won't need to spend a dime. There is also a subscription which brings lots of advantages over the f2p players, but only in PvP, in PvE it just reduce the time you would spent to farming mark of truth, the identification scroll, free transportation, auto loot on currency and many other accessible things. Some are not needed and should be removed, like free transportation with obelisks, resurrect at the same spot and the free resets of talents.

In the end Drakensang Online is a good free mmorpg with an installation required, beautiful graphics, lots of features to explore. It's a great free mmo to play and lots of fun can be had if you have the time.
