War of 2012 has released an overview of the game as well as a player review of the game in its beta status:
A Look at War of 2012
Recently I was offered a chance to play the Open Beta for War of 2012. Being someone who loves to build an empire I was excited to give the game a whirl. I didn't expect too much from this browser game but I have to be honest, I ended up with more than I bargained for. The tutorial was very easy to navigate and I took up arms and quickly absorbed myself into the game.
My surviving tribe spreads across the world quickly, being likened to a swarm of locusts by my enemies. The times have been tough on our people, but my heroes are a force to be reckoned with, generals of a new nation wresting control of the land and taking cities by force with advanced military tactics.
This is what War of 2012 is all about!
With an iron fist I rule my kingdom, but my true wealth comes from mastery of logistical techniques and player to player trading on the market. I've smartly collected the weapons and armor of my defeated enemies, smelted them down and recreated some of the most powerful equipment known to civilization. After making sure my Heroes were equipped I've been able to trade the rest and use the proceeds to further fund my war machine.
No doubt the most powerful of my neighbors have surely taken notice of my most recent conquests because my spies have reported increased enemy activity. Loyalty is the greatest asset to grabbing ultimate power; trust is scarce in these ravaged lands.
The few allies that have proven to be trustworthy have come together and taken a blood oath to control the Temple Arena. These last mysterious temples are said to hold the greatest treasures that remain on Earth, but they are highly contested areas of battle and the struggle continues to unlock their secrets.
War of 2012 moves in ages, such as Dark, Feudal, Castle, ect. which also influences the level of technology and military unites you have access too. You can recruit heroes and arm them with one type of military unit. Then send multiple heroes to attack the enemy. Units react to one another in unique ways based on their distinguishing features. For Example, the Arbalest is very effective against Pikemen and Billmen. Choosing a Hero that is proficient in ranged combat will boost their effectiveness even more. Putting the right units under the supervision of the best heroes is a core tactical decision you will face.
And hell yes, this is the type of game that you want to just play day in and day out. War of 2012 is amazingly addictive, with sessions commonly drawing more than five or six hours out of me in a single sitting. The reason? Because win or lose, War of 2012 allows players to guide an entire society and craft their own story, taking them from out of the disaster of 2012 and far into the future.
Here is a game review done by one of the top beta players:
Interview With 2012 Top Beta Gamer
Few weeks ago a new game called War of 2012 became the newest member of the SLG browser game family. It's short, but defining history somehow made an impression on me so I set out to learn more about the history of how this game was developed and the roots from which it sprang.
I came learn that the game was developed by several Chinese developers who decided to devote their time to making their own elite version that would incorporate all the enjoyable facets of a SLG game. The game released and was a huge success in China and later, was brought to Japan and Korea where it also found success with the support of Seedc and NCSOFT.
Immersing myself in the game recently and wanted to see what brought this game to the praise of NCSOFT and Seedc. It was then I meet some new friends in the game, then an idea of having quick but honest Q and A with them about the game occurred in my mind, getting truthful answers from people who were actually playing the game rather than hearing the candy coated descriptions from developer.
So we have Smiggy here who joined the beta. I hope you can take from it the truth about the game from an actual player's perspective.
Q. Hi Smiggy, can you tell us a little bit about yourself, and your past gaming experiences?
A. I’m 32 year old male, married with two kids, own my own business and have been gaming for 15 years + on MMO’s with my wife, I have played Everquest, World of War Craft , Evony, Fog of War, and many others.
Q. There are literally hundreds of strategy games hitting the market every day, how did you hear about War of 2012, how did you know the game was coming out?
A. I played Fog of War for a long time, I came back to visit and a moderator mentioned it to me, and in turn I told many of my friends that are currently playing.
Q." Tell us a little bit about your favorite features in War of 2012.
A. I like the way troops are used and the fact that there is no need to farm food for them. That was always the worst part to most of the other games like this." If you wanted to be good you had to farm.
Q. How do you feel about the combat in 2012, is the game balanced?
A. It is very different, there is a lot of emphasis on the heroes, and for that reason balanced is difficult to achieve." If you pay to play you are MUCH more likely to get better heroes and be much better in the war aspect of the game, but i do think it’s possible to play competitively without buying coins.
Q. How do things work out between friends and enemies, are the politics in the game of significant interest?
A. One of the big things I see is you can still attack friends and alliance members. This will make it very hard for the leaders of alliance to keep peace." People are generally lazy and attack anyone they see and you will start to see some under the table teamwork to help each other level heroes and such.
Q. Why should gamers choose to play this game over others?
A. Again back to the food aspect, you don’t have to feed your troops and that is huge time burden on people that have a life.
Q. Is the game easy to play, will players find it easy to learn how to play?
A. No, it takes a while to find everything you need to do and remember where it is and what places you need to go to get certain researches and troops. Once you have a few weeks in it, it isn’t too bad but still difficult to maneuver. But there is a great interface video on the wiki that helps new players understand the user-interface better.
Q. For all the new players that are flooding into the game, what is the best piece of advice you can give them?
A. Find a good alliance that is helpful. I had a few friends that started a few days before me that helped out tremendously. And take advantage of the War of 2012 Wiki.
Q. The game has a very unique market feature allowing you to trade with other players; do you find the feature useful?
A. Yes it is very interesting, a good way for the non-paying players to make some coin and help balance out the playing field.
Q. How do you make a good start in the game?
A. Again it goes back to your heroes." You need to level your heroes up as fast as you can so you can pillage resources from other players to build your empire. Heroes are the key from what I have seen so far.
Q. How do you feel about alliances, we’ve heard you may attack your own alliance members, does that happen often in the game?
A. Doesn’t happen often, but I don’t mind that feature to much just because the way the troops and such are you are able to level your heroes and trade resources that way. Also you can experiment to figure out what type of troop kills what type best." It is all a process and this feature does help.
Q. Will you continue to play War of 2012?
A. Yes! The game has grown on me and I can't wait to experiment more with the Temple Arena battle system. (maybe we can put a bit more on the system here)
Thank you Smiggy for letting us to know the game well in such short way.
